Dictionary Authoring XML Editor
The DPS XML Editor for editing works by revealing the data structure of each dictionary and making it easy to move blocks and edit cross-references...
The Authoring XML Editor is an application installed on each user's computer. It allows them to work remotely through an Internet connection, giving them a quick link to the Repository and to Workflow control features, while still letting them work offline on work batches that they have downloaded.

Key Writing Features
-
Twin Document Display for a powerful WYSIWYG XML Editing. One screen shows the XML tree view that provides a reliable look and feel for the document structure. Another screen gives the formatted view that provides a printed layout. Both screens can be edited by the user and remain synchronized. "The lexicographers benefit from the excellent text presentation" - Sarah Williams, Oxford English Dictionary Key User Manager
-
XML Attributes Editing Provides you with easy editing of XML element attributes. Attribute values are in a restricted list so the process is quick and secure
-
Cross-References Link is built between two elements Ids: xref origin and target to have a strong and secure linking. If the target is moved, the link is automatically updated and maintained to avoid huge cross-references checking before printing
-
Paragraph Automated Numbering
-
Drag and drop editing Text blocks and elements can be moved by a simple drag & drop
-
Comments / Flags Editors can easily leave notes for other editors and can search for editing notes and comments that others have left
-
XML Templating Feature the Template Picker lets editors use predefined XML blocks to save time in editing typical entries
-
Multi-project Editing The Editor allows your editorial team to work on different dictionaries at the same time
Fully Integrated with Other DPS Modules
-
Online/offline working When users have downloaded a batch of work, they can work offline until it is completed,
-
Batch allocation and control The 'Local Store' allows each author or editor to download their assigned documents. The documents are assigned by editorial managers through a special work allocation interface
-
Task control and loggging The 'Task Sign Off' facility means you have to explicitly sign off at the end of each specified operation on a document in order to make the document progress to the next stage in the Workflow. This gives you a secure and reliable confirmation of the state of each document
-
Search Shortcut This can look up the corpus directly from the Editor interface: to look for links to potential cross-reference targets, for tagging models, or for writing style help
Take The Author's Word For It
"IDM's system provides automated help with sorting and reordering various elements of the text. Block moves of text have been made easier than in our previous system. The embedded annotations that used to pepper the text can be viewed, added or deleted in a side panel that keeps the main text clean" - Sarah Williams, Oxford English Dictionary Key User Manager.
